ใน สมัยสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 มีทหารของฝ่ายกองทัพพันธมิตร ได้รับบาดเจ็บ และล้มตายเป็นจำนวนมาก แพทย์ประจำกองทัพพันธมิตรจึงได้ร้องขอให้สภากาชาด ของแต่ละประเทศจัดตั้งหน่วยบริการโลหิตขึ้น เพื่อเรียกร้องให้ประชาชนบริจาคโลหิต ช่วยชีวิตทหารที่บาดเจ็บในสนามรบ จนกระทั่งสงครามสงบลงหน่วยรับถ่ายโลหิต ที่จัดตั้งขึ้นในขณะนั้นก็ยังดำเนินการต่อมา

สำหรับประเทศไทยในสมัยสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 คนไทยไม่นิยม และยังไม่ยินยอม บริจาคโลหิตกัน เมื่อโรงพยาบาลจำเป็นต้องใช้โลหิตรักษาคนไข้ จะต้องเจาะจากญาติคนไข้ หรือไม่ก็มี การซื้อขาย

จวบจนในปีพุทธศักราช 2494 ได้มีการประชุมสันนิบาตกาชาด ครั้งที่ 17 ที่กรุงสต๊อกโฮล์ม ประเทศสวีเดน ได้มีมติให้สภากาชาด แต่ละประเทศพยายามจัดตั้งงานบริการโลหิตขึ้น โดยให้ยึด ถือหลักที่ว่า บริจาคโลหิตด้วยจิตศรัทธา ไม่ต้องการสิ่งตอบแทน หรือหวังผลตอบ แทนใด ๆ

หลังจากการประชุมสันนิบาตกาชาดครั้งที่ 17 เสร็จสิ้นลง ศาสตราจารย์นายแพทย์เฉลิม บูรณะนนท์ ผู้อำนวยการกองวิทยาศาสตร์ สภากาชาดไทย ในขณะนั้นได้นำมติดังกล่าวเสนอต่อ กรรมการสภากาชาดไทยขอจัดตั้งแผนกบริการโลหิตขึ้นในกองวิทยาศาสตร์ งานบริการโลหิตของ สภากาชาดไทยจึงได้เริ่มกิจการขึ้นอย่างเป็นทางการเมื่อวันที่ 18 มกราคม 2495 เพื่อตอบสนองต่อ ข้อเสนอของ สภากาชาดสากล ต่อมา พ.ศ.2496 ราชสกุลรังสิต

ได้บริจาคเงินสร้างตึกที่ทำการงานบริการโลหิต ขึ้นชื่อว่า ตึกรังสิตานุสรณ์ โดยมีพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว และสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯเสด็จพระราชดำเนินเปิดตึก เมื่อวันที่ 12 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ.2496

การบริจาคโลหิตในปีแรก ๆ นั้น จะกระทำเฉพาะภายในสถานที่เท่านั้น มีผู้บริจาควันละไม่ถึง 10 ราย โดยมีพระเจ้าวรวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้าจุมภฎพงษ์บริพัตร กรมหมื่นนครสวรรค์ศักดิพินิต เป็นผู้บริจาคหมายเลข 1 ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.2498 จึงได้เริ่มออกรับบริจาคโลหิตภายนอกสถานที่ โดยได้รับบริจาครถยนต์จากสมาคมเซ็นต์แอนดรูแห่งกรุงเทพฯ

ในปี พ.ศ.2506 รัฐบาลฝรั่งเศส ได้แสดงความสนใจ ที่จะช่วยเหลืองานบริการโลหิตใน ประเทศไทย และเสนอให้ความช่วยเหลือในด้านการฝึกอบรมเจ้าหน้าที่และเครื่องไม้เครื่อง มือ เพื่อ จัดตั้งศูนย์บริการโลหิตแห่งชาติ และรัฐบาลไทย ได้มอบหมายให้สภากาชาดไทยรับไปดำเนินการ ที่ประชุมกรรมการสภากาชาดไทย มีมติอนุมัติให้แยกแผนกบริการโลหิตออกจากกองวิทยาศาสตร์ ตั้งเป็นศูนย์บริการโลหิตแห่งชาติ สภากาชาดไทย และแต่งตั้งนายแพทย์เฉลิม บูรณะนนท์ เป็นผู้อำนวยการท่านแรก ของศูนย์บริการโลหิตแห่งชาติ

ปี พ.ศ.2511 รัฐบาลได้จัดตั้งงบประมาณเป็นค่าก่อสร้างอาคารศูนย์บริการโลหิตแห่งชาติ พร้อม เครื่องเรือน เมื่ออาคารแล้วเสร็จ ได้รับพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯจากพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่ หัว เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเปิดอาคาร เมื่อวันที่ 13 ตุลาคม พ.ศ.2512 ซึ่งอาคารดังกล่าวยังคงใช้ เป็นที่ทำการจวบจนปัจจุบัน
วัตถุประสงค์:

รับบริจาคโลหิต เพื่อนำไปช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วย ผู้ประสบอุบัติเหตุและเก็บสำรองไว้ใช้ในโรงพยาบาลต่างๆ
กิจกรรมมูลนิธิ:

งานบริการโลหิตเป็นงานสาธารณสุขงานหนึ่ง ที่มีบบทบาทสำคัญเกี่ยวข้องกับชีวิตผู้คนมาตลอด นับตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน

กระทรวงสาธารณสุขจึงได้มอบหมายให้ศูนย์บริการโลหิตแห่งชาติ สภากาชาดไทย รับผิดชอบงานด้านบริการโลหิตทั้งหมดของประเทศ

โดยมีหน้าที่ในการจัดหาโลหิตจากผู้บริจาคซึ่งไม่หวังผลตอบแทน เพื่อนำไปใช้รักษาผู้ป่วยทั่วประเทศ

เพื่อให้การดำเนินงานบริการโลหิตเป็นไปในระบบแบบแผนที่มีมาตรฐานเดียวกัน และทัดเทียมกันทั่วประเทศ ศูนย์บริการโลหิตแห่งชาติได้มีนโยบายจัดตั้งภาคบริการโลหิตแห่งชาติ กระจายไปตามภูมิภาค จำนวน 12 ภาค เพื่อให้เป็นศูนย์กลางของการจัดหาโลหิตตรวจคัดกรอง คุณภาพโลหิต เก็บ และจ่ายโลหิต ส่วนประกอบของโลหิต ผลิตภัณฑ์ต่างๆ ของโลหิต โดยใช้ขั้นตอนและวิธีการเดียวกันกับศูนย์บริการโลหิตแห่งชาติทุกประการ

WordPress MU is the underlying software that powers the WordPress.com hosted blogging service. WordPress MU is also used by newspapers, magazines, blog networks, universities and large companies running corporate blogging systems behind firewalls.

Using the WordPress multi-user edition, you will be able offer your users an opportunity to sign up for a new blog. They will be able to securely manage their templates and settings without affecting any other users. You can have unlimited users with unlimited blogs, and users can have various roles (admin, editor, author, contributor, subscriber) on each other’s blogs. One or more Site Administrators can perform site-wide management tasks, including adding users and blogs, altering permissions and granting access to themes.

WordPress MU is a unique WordPress product. Plugins and themes are controlled by a central system administrator. So unlike the single-user version of WordPress, individual MU bloggers cannot upload their own plugins and themes, only select from the ones made available by the system administrator.
